Rick Ross, a prominent figure in the world of hip-hop, has made his stance clear in the ongoing “Choose between $500,000 or dinner with JAY-Z?” debate. The MMG (Maybach Music Group) mogul shared his perspective on Monday (October 23) regarding the value of having a one-on-one conversation with the Brooklyn billionaire over receiving half a million dollars.
Addressing the resurgence of this debate on social media, thanks to JAY-Z weighing in himself, Rick Ross elaborated on why he believes that picking JAY-Z’s brain is more valuable than a substantial cash sum. He conveyed his thoughts through a video posted on his Instagram Stories.
“I’m going to take the dinner, and I’ll explain why,” Ross stated. He recalled a pivotal encounter with JAY-Z back in 2008 when he was working on his second album, “Trilla.” During their meeting at Philippe Chow in Manhattan, Ross recounted a conversation where JAY-Z offered him valuable advice.
“He said, ‘Rozay, instead of writing to every beаt you like, write to every record you could make work,'” Ross shared. JAY-Z also shared a quick anecdote about his own Һit track, “Big Pimpin’.” Ross accepted this advice and transitioned from writing one record for every 80 beats he liked to writing 40 records for every 80 beats he could make work.
Ross credited JAY-Z’s wisdom with propelling him to another level as a writer and artist, ultimately leading to greater success in the rap industry and providing the foundation for his other lucrative business ventures.
“It took me to another level as a writer and another level as an artist,” Ross explained. “The amount of work I was putting out was next level. So, you have to ask yourself, are you ready to absorb the knowledge, or do you just want to glance at your watch at the dinner table?”
This debate about choosing between a meal with JAY-Z or $500,000 gained renewed attention after JAY-Z was asked about it during an interview with CBS News’ Gayle King. He unequivocally recommended taking the money, emphasizing that he has already shared the blueprint for success through his music.
“You should take the money,” he stated without hesitation. “What am I going to sаy? You’ve got all that wisdom in the music for $10.99! That’s a bad deal. I wouldn’t advise you to make a bad deal. Take the $500,000, go buy some albums, and listen to the albums – it’s all there! If you piece it together and really listen to the music for the words, for what it is, it’s all there. Everything that I said was going to happen, happened. Everything that I said I wаnted to do, I’ve done. There’s the blueprint. The blueprint, literally, to me and my life and my journey is there already.”
