Jay-Z has finally talked about where his oldest daughter Blue Ivy’s nаme came from. He also said that she was going to be called something else at first.

There were two parts to Hov’s interview with Gayle King on CBS Mornings. In the second part, which aired on Friday (October 27), he told the veteran reporter that “Blue Ivy” wasn’t the nаme he and Beyoncé were planning to use at first.

“She was meant to be Brooklyn,” he told King. The nаme was probably meant to honor the borough in New York City where JAY-Z was born. “That was the nаme we had in theory. But when we saw the sonograms, we thought the baby was so small that we should call her a blueberry. For example, “Look at that little blueberry!” It was like a cool nаme. We kept saying, “Look at the little blueberry!” for nine months. It made sense, so we got rid of the “berry” and called her Blue.

When JAY-Z talked to Gayle King, he talked a lot about Blue Ivy Carter and how great she was. But the father of three also said that Blue, like every other pre-teen, had times when she was “fronting” on her father.

Jay laughed as he talked about how his oldest daughter didn’t like his coolness at first, but she’s changed her mind since then.

“Blue—she’s kind of facing me, but I catch her in the corner,” Hov said. She then asks me if what she’s wearing, like her sneakers, is cool. She’s back now, but she used to be like, “Daaaad!” “I’m cool,” I said. I don’t understand what you sаy! Mom and dad are cool at your house!”

At another point in the chat, JAY-Z talked about how he got the nаme “One Take Hov” in the beginning of his career.

“This was back when you recorded to real tape,” he said. It’s not possible to mess up because you’d have to cut the tape and go all the way back. To “fly the chorus on this thing” (copy the chorus from one part of the song to another part), you had to go to dinner. That’s where the phrase “One Take Hov” came from. It took hours for an engineer.”

“He had to cut the tape and fly it over here,” he said. So, you get it? I started to learn my lines really well so I could do them once. I went straight down and didn’t waste any time.”

JAY-Z explains why he named his daughter Blue Ivy and its surprising
