JAY-Z prompted Lil Wayne to forgo the pad and write bars, but now he’s citing another reason.
Weezy said on FOX Sports’ UNDISPUTED that he’s “too old and too tired” to read lyrics in the booth.
God bless the iPhone. I used to have to remind myself all day because I don’t write anything down. The 41-year-old told co-hosts Michael Irvin and Skip Bayless that they always believe it’s an accomplishment.
No, I don’t write because I’m too old and exhausted to read. Now that they have the iPhone, I record the voice memo.”

Lil Wayne told The Pivot Podcast this summer that he writes raps without paper for another reason. He said JAY-Z made him throw out his notebook early in his career after hearing Jigga freestyle off the dome without lyrics.
“Love Biggie, Jadakiss, and all that sҺit, but Jay. When I heard it, I paused. My boy can be asked. “I heard that n-gga JAY-Z don’t write no more,” he said.
I never rapped anything off a paper again after we recorded ‘10,000 Bars’ in the studio.”
Wayne’s 2002 35-minute single “10,000 Bars” features him spitting his last rhymes frantically over various sounds. Microphones picked up discarded paper.
The New Orleans native also recalls Birdman yelling at him for trying to sound like JAY-Z when rapping.
“When you find a favorite artist, you’ll start sounding like them,” he told Rolling Stone. I was pulled aside by Birdman and them and told, “Bro, I’m tired of every song you doing sounding like dаmn JAY-Z.” You’re not Jay-Z.
