The Rock Hall has eliminated Coldplay, one of the biggest bands of the 21st century

It’s time to examine a different musician that fans believe has (so far) been disregarded by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

We examine Coldplay today, one of the biggest acts of the twenty-first century, who recently gained admission to the Rock Hall.

How it works: An artist must have released their first official recording at least 25 years ago in order to be eligible.

Despite releasing their debut EP in 1998, Coldplay was not included on the vote when it was made public last week.

Why it matters: Coldplay was a phenomenon in the 2000s, winning numerous accolades and selling over 100 million albums at a time when rock music was beginning to lose its public appeal.

Yes, but: During the 2016 Super Bowl halftime concert, Coldplay was overshadowed by Bruno Mars and Beyoncé, making them seem a bit of a punchline rather than having the edge of great rock bands past. Although Coldplay’s previous three albums were all excellent, 2008’s “Viva la Vida” is the sound of the band taking the globe by storm and is well worth your attention.

My inner monologue: I don’t like Coldplay. Still, it’s a unique achievement to be the biggest band in the world for five years. Artists have been inducted into the Rock Hall for far less.
