According to a statement the rapper sent to CNN, “She reminds me of my mother and grandmother.”
Along with Tyler Perry, Snoop Dogg is supporting a 93-year-old South Carolina woman who is battling to save her house and land.
The 51-year-old rapper “Lay Low” revealed to CNN that he has contributed $10,000 to Josephine Wright’s GoFundMe page.
In a statement, Snoop Dogg said to CNN, “I did it from the heart.” “She makes me think of my grandmother and mother.”
Perry, 53, also backed Wright, who is presently embroiled in a court dispute over her house, as PEOPLE previously revealed.
The South Carolinian claimed to WSAV, a local news source, that she was being harassed by developers who were trying to make her sell her land.
Wright told WSAV that her Hilton Head house is “where I want to be at this age” and that she will oppose anyone who stands in her way of that. Wright is a grandmother to 40, a great-grandmother to 50, and a great-great-grandmother to 16 children.
“I’ve been a fighter pretty much my entire life,” Wright stated to the newspaper.
The outlet claims that Wright’s family has owned the house since the Civil Wаr’s aftermath. Former slaves who were set free by Union soldiers were her husband’s family.
According to WSAV, an investment group that is developing the land behind Wright’s home filed a complaint, claiming that portions of the house are on their land.
Regarding the developers, she stated, “I guess they figured I would get so unnerved with the harassment that I would sаy ‘take it.’” They don’t know me, though. I’m here to defend what I own.
When PEOPLE asked the investment group for comment, a spokesperson did not get back to them right away.
Perry became aware of Wright’s predicament after seeing WSAV’s coverage of her bаttle. Sharing it on Instagram, the actor, director, and philanthropist promised his support.
“Ms. Wright, please tell where to show up and what you need to help you figҺt,” he wrote, paraphrasing Wright, who said, “I’ve pretty much been a fighter all my life.”
