Travis Scott Reflects on How “UTOPIA” Was Inspired by a Car Ride with Stormi

Thanks to his GQ magazine story, Travis Scott has shared a lot of information with the music industry and us in the last few hours. There is a lot to digest, from his desire to become an architect and give us an intimate glimpse into his views on the Astroworld disaster to making UTOPIA into a musical. Travis’s stellar record has made him undoubtedly one of the most well-known rappers in the world. After five years of waiting, fans received a GRAMMY-nominated tape. The fact that UTOPIA rejected the conventional formula proposed by the Houston artist was what made it so awesome.

Even if Kanye West’s Yeezus serves as a major inspiration, Travis’ style is still very much there. That’s partly because of a car ride he had with his daughter Stormi. He discusses in the interview how he revived the La Flame era of 2013–2014, which many devoted followers would refer to as such. “In reality, Stormi and I were riding together while fireworks were being shown in Houston. “Mamacita” is, quite literally, her all-time favorite song. It’s from this mixtape called Days Before Rodeo, and she listens to it nonstop in the car.”
