Coldplay are unstoppable despite being created nearly 20 years ago. The band—Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion—has had several hits, from ‘Fix You’ to ‘Higher Power’ and ‘Humankind’, which has a great video.

1) What early name did Coldplay have?

Coldplay weren’t always that! Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland met at London University in 1996 to establish the band. Together, they were Pectoralz. They became Starfish after adding bassist Guy Berryman.

Drummer and backup vocalist Will Champion completed the lineup later. Chris Martin mentioned in a Carpool Karaoke interview with James Corden that Coldplay changed their name in 1998.

2) Why is ‘Yellow’ the musical title?

Chris Martin saw the Yellow Pages while namestyling Coldplay’s 2000 song ‘Yellow’ Not as romantic as believed!

Despite coming from across the UK, the band met at London University. Jonnie Buckland is from London, while Chris Martin is from a Devon town near Exeter. Scottish Guy Berryman is from Kirkcaldy, and Southampton-born Will Champion.
