Coldplay performs “Clocks” as Jimmy Kimmel’s first musical guest on his 20th anniversary

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel Live! commemorated the 20th anniversary of its debut episode. Coldplay, the show’s first musical guest, made a comeback to sing “Clocks,” maybe in an attempt to really make Kimmel realize how mortal he is.

The presentation featured all the qualities we’ve grown accustomed to from a regular forty-minute comedy show produced by a group of intelligent, humorous, exhausted, and sleep-deprived individuals. It started with a completely undercooked scene in which Chris Martin, the front man of Coldplay, pretended he wouldn’t be performing at all. It gained momentum when the curtain rose to reveal a full orchestra performing the pop-rock analysis of passing time. Finally, it culminated on the roof with spectacular fireworks and Kimmel himself providing saxophone accompaniment to the band.

Kimmel had a conversation with Snoop Dogg, who co-hosted his debut episode, at another point in the show. Kimmel remarked, “I recall you telling me on that first show that you’d quit smoking marijuana.” “How’s that going?”

Snoop said, “Well, I guess I relapsed.” George Clooney was invited to the stage by Kimmel after the interview, and everyone took a shot, including Kimmel, Clooney, Snoop, and Guillermo Rodriguez.

“It’s like a public access show,” Clooney said, comparing Kimmel’s first episode to something he had previously rewatched. When Kimmel asked how he felt it went, the actor answered, “I was so intoxicated, who knew? I was unable to recall.
