With Pink Friday 2, Nicki Minaj finally released her long-awaited Drake collaboration.
Minaj dropped her fifth studio album on Friday, December 8, her 41st birthday. The follow-up to 2018’s Queen featured J. Cole, Lil Uzι Vert, Lil Wayne, and Future, but Barbz liked “Needle.” Minaj rejoins Drake, 37, for the first time since 2021’s “Seeing Green” and their chemistry is still sizzling.
Drake raps, “Friends were pessimistic ’bout our love, heard they tight now / We both know they’re miserable at home, f–k ’em all.” Minaj performs “Shadin’ like silhouettes, spinnin’ like pirouettes / It gave nothin’, bitcҺ, thank you for zero, next / Dаmn, Drizzy, another bitter ex, shout out my intellects.”
Drake and Minaj sing the final chorus, acknowledging how unusual it was for them to meet: “Pull up the Maybach and bend your leg back / Let’s engage that, don’t delay that / You’re like a needle, life’s a haystack / Friends they can leave us, you could stay back.”
“Moment 4 Life” from Pink Friday and “Up All Night” from Drake’s Thank Me Later were their collaborations. Drake and she collaborated on “Make Me Proud” from Drake’s Take Care, “Only” and “Truffle Butter” from The Pinkprint, and “No Frauds” from 2017. Minaj gave Drake a spicy lap dance in her “Anaconda” video.
Minaj said on “Only” that she “never f—ked [Lil] Wayne / I never f—ked Drake,” denying romance rumors about the longtime friends’ flirtatious and physical performances. Drake stated he would be “first in line” to have sеx with Minaj while she was single, but she married Kenneth Petty in 2019. The couple had a son in October 2020. That month, Minaj revealed she was delighted for her baby to have “playdates” with Drake’s 6-year-old son, Adonis.
Minaj discussed her latest Drake duet with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily on September 1. I adore the song. “I know my fans will love the song,” she remarked. “I know the song will be popular. I’m done talking about that.”
Drake wasn’t done with the cooperation yet. Minaj instructed her Barbz fans to inform Drizzy Drake about Pink Friday 2’s release and await his participation.
Drake assured fans during his July 8 Little Caesars Arena show that a collaboration was coming. Drake remarked, “I’m gonna give away one thing for you tonight because I got a lot of love for Detroit,” according Billboard. I’ll tell you that Nicki Minaj and I did our first song in a long time. Love her a lot.”
Fans expected Minaj to appear on his October 6 album For All the Dogs, but she didn’t. Two months later, Minaj released “Needle” on her birthday, December 8, instead of November 17.
