Jikamarie, a rising star in the Philippines, will open for Coldplay at their two sold-out shows at the Philippine Arena in January.
The popular song “lutang,” which went viral on TikTok during the pandemic, was created by Jikamarie. In less than a month, it amassed over 80,000 creations on the platform and shot to the top of both the local and international Spotify viral charts, landing at number one. With over 20 million plays to date, the song marked her musical debut.
Jikamarie expressed her excitement in a statement, saying she could “not believe it” when she learned she would be opening for Coldplay.
She remarked, “I’ve been listening to this band since elementary school.” “Back then, I didn’t own a phone, so I would wait for their MYX music videos to play. I was so happy when I found out that I sobbed to my relatives.”
She continued by saying that she preferred the band’s song “Fix You” because of how timeless it is.
“Hinahanap-Hanap,” “lito,” and the upcoming song “bawi na lang sa next life” are some of Jikamarie’s other hits.
The Philippine Arena will host Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres concert on January 19 and 20, 2024. They went there for the first time in 2017.
Their Buenos Aires concert in 2022 was shown in theaters all over the world. The band commemorated the 20th anniversary of “A Rush of Blood to the Head,” their album that featured the singles “The Scientist,” “In My Place,” and “Clocks,” in the same year.
Recently, the band collaborated with Jin from BTS on his first solo single, “The Astronaut,” and the two of them performed in Argentina. In 2021, BTS and Coldplay worked together on the song “My Universe.”
