DJ Khaled’s family is what truly defines him now, not his social media following or fame.
The music producer received a fresh lease on life after the birth of his first kid, Asahd, 6½, and he recalled that’s exactly what JAY-Z had said would happen.
“It’s all for them,” 47-year-old Khaled stated to Variety on Wednesday during an interview for a cover story. “Everything, including our home, our vehicles, our watches, and the music we listen to… “Wait till you have a kid—that’s when life really starts,” Jay-Z advised me.
“And my life changed as soon as my kids were born,” he continued. Not only these gifts, but also my way of thinking. Success is not determined by money. To be a mogul is not defined by money. True success, in my opinion, is happiness.”
Sons Asahd and Aalam, 3½, are shared by Khaled and his partner Nicole Tuck. He told PEOPLE in May about his meticulous morning ritual, which involves giving thanks to his family.
Khaled claimed he wakes up at 7:30 a.m., gets out of the shower at 8:15 a.m., and by 8:47 a.m., has dressed and applied “that cocoa butter all over me.” At 9:30 a.m., he leaves the house and heads to the golf course after bidding his family farewell with a kiss.
“I follow that both when I’m riding and when I’m not. since there is just one cycle. It’s called “show gratitude in life every day,” said Khaled. “My life is making sure my kids and my queen are happy, whether you call it on-cycle or off-cycle.” After that, I take actions to maintain my inspiration since I find happiness in their happiness. I express my thankfulness to God, my wife, and my children every morning as I wake up. That’s what I actually do. I keep it to myself. I am living it.
In another section of the Variety interview, DJ Khaled talked candidly about his friendship with Drake, stating that their shared love of children has brought them closer.
He marveled over the “Knife Talk” rapper’s court in his Toronto home, calling Drake’s family “beautiful” and revealing that his 5-year-old kid Adonis “plays good basketball too”.
Khaled remarked, “That house is unbelievable because you got to remind yourself that it’s a house.” “To get to the indoor pool or the club, you’ll be in the studio, the basketball court, and then it will feel like an hour-long walk.”
The house is “like a museum,” he continued, and “you can get lost in there, for sure.”
