The ongoing rivalry between Travis Scott and John McEnroe has now turned personal, according to Cactus Jack.
On Tuesday, December 12, the rapper “SICKO MODE” posted a video to his Instagram stories in which he is seen looking around before destroying a plaque that honors McEnroe with an orange spray paint can. It looks like Scott is painting a happy face on McEnroe’s commemorative plaque, but it’s unclear if the paint can be removed or if the plaque can ever be brought back to its original splendor.
Since McEnroe’s “Mac Attack” sneakers were reissued earlier this year, the rapper and the tennis juggernaut were discussing a possible shoe collaboration in a video that went viral on Saturday, December 10. In the video, the rapper is seen in a Zoom meeting with McEnroe and Nike executives.
In the video, McEnroe expresses his disagreement with Scott’s recommendation that the Mac Attacks, which are branded under Scott, be dubbed “Cactus Jack” and instead insists that the line be called “Cactus Mac.” “Oh my god, Travis. “Jenny is correct, let’s make a small concession,” McEnroe added.
La Flame tried to clarify that “Cactus Mac was never a thing,” but McEnroe wouldn’t budge. Taking the criticism personally, he exclaimed, “Come on, dude! Be respectful! I’m wearing this shoe.
Spray painting the plaque seemed to be a reaction to what McEnroe did following the Zoom call. The tennis icon was seen on camera scribbling “Mac” over Travis’ Cactus Jack insignia on the heel of a pair of Mac Attack boots
In another reference to their dispute over the name, McEnroe was sporting a T-shirt with the words “Cactus Mac” inscribed on it in the manner of Scott’s Cactus Jack logo.
McEnroe speaks directly to Scott in the video, stating, “I was wearing these things in the ’80s before this guy was born.” I just made it Cactus Mac because all of a sudden Travis Scott has this thing called Cactus Jack.
Come on, I mean. All I’m asking for is a little respect.
Since pictures from a real Cactus Jack x Nike Attack collaboration have surfaced, some analysts have surmised that the entire affair is a marketing trick. Later this month is when it’s supposedly coming out.
Last summer, Scott and McEnroe collaborated on a Mac Attack advertisement.
On June 23, the Mac Attack mid-top, which retailed for $120, was released. It featured the original colorway, which combined black and light silver to create the iconic Nike silhouette.
