The oceans around the world are overflowing with garbage, but an unexpected ally is standing up to shield marine life from environmental contamination: Coldplay.
The pop-rock group responsible for songs like “Viva La Vida” and “Fix You” has teamed up with The Ocean Cleanup to support a plastic interceptor that will gather plastic debris from Jakarta, Indonesia’s Cisadane River.
After Interceptor 005 in Malaysia in 2021, the band’s second sponsored project for The Ocean Cleanup is The Interceptor 020, also known as the Neon Moon II. Neon Moon I is the moniker given to the 005, which has assisted in gathering over 2.2 million pounds of plastic from the Klang River.
On the website of The Ocean Cleanup, it is stated that Coldplay shows millions of fans a video of the environmental organization’s cleanup operations before to their live performances all over the world.
Recently, in Los Angeles, Ocean Cleanup launched its first American interceptor. The company’s goal of eliminating plastic pollution in the world’s oceans is commendable, since enormous waste accumulations such as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and the tire-filled Osborne Reef are endangering marine life.
Boyan Slat, the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, said, “We’re thrilled to have Coldplay on board and to be making such a big impact together against plastic pollution in Asia.” We would want to express our sincere gratitude to Coldplay for their assistance and look forward to seeing Neon Moon II in operation and collecting rubbish shortly.
“The Ocean Cleanup’s work is so vital because without action, there could be more plastic in the oceans by 2050 than fish,” Coldplay said in their initial statement regarding their sponsorship of the 005. We are honored to support Interceptor 005, also known as Neon Moon 1, which is designed to intercept tons of garbage before it enters the ocean.
