Promoter Everything New The Estádio Cidade de Coimbra received €300,000 from the Associação Académica de Coimbra – Organismo Autónomo de Futebol (AAC/OAF) for the use of the venue for four Coldplay concerts in May, according to a report presented to the City Council and reported by Lusa agency.
This is the first report AAC/OAF has given the municipality in over 20 years of handling Euro 2004 sporting equipment owned by the local authorities but administered by the football club.
An official from the municipality said the document was “received very recently at the City Council” and “has not yet been subject to analysis by the municipal technical services” and will be taken to the executive meeting for councillors’ information.
The current executive requested management reports in March.
Due to the equipment management agreement with the AAC/OAF, the City Council paid the promoter €400,000 for the four Coldplay concerts in Coimbra, but was barred any stadium earnings.
Coldplay concerts generated 300 thousand euros in 2022/2023, over half of the stadium’s total revenue (excluding professional football).
Revenue (without football) was 656 thousand euros, 356 thousand of which were Cidade de Coimbra Stadium rent.
The AAC/OAF management notes in the report that Coldplay’s concerts saved the club money on equipment upkeep because the promoter did it.
Management also considers concert income “very relevant”.
