Armstrong said in a Genius interview she relates to “The Emptiness Machine” lyrics as she’d rather be hated for being herself than faking it.

“I think the traveling with everybody. I love that. And getting to play shows, and seeing everybody has just been such a dream. It’s been so surreal to see it. There’s one thing of being in the studio and writing the album and being so immersed in that, and then to see it come to life when you’re out in front of people… The energy is just so – It’s hard to take it all in at once,” she said in a recent interview with Alt 98.7.
