Yesterday (5th September), the legendary rock band Linkin Park thrilled fans with a surprise announcement during a livestream event: they’re making an epic comeback! Their new album, “From Zero,” will be the band’s first release since 2017’s “One More Light,” which was the final record featuring the late Chester Bennington.
That’s not all, Linkin Park is returning with more than just new music and a world tour. They’re also welcoming a fresh voice to the mix! Singer Emily Armstrong is joining the band as their new female vocalist, adding a new dynamic to their sound. Here are 5 things you need to know about Linkin Park’s new co-vocalist:
1. She’s A Former Member Of Deаd Sara
Before Emily became a part of the Linkin Park family, she had already made her mark as an experienced singer. She co-founded and served as the vocalist for a three-member band called Deаd Sara, alongside Siouxsie Medley and Sean Friday. The band’s journey began in 2002 when Emily and Siouxsie were just 16 and 15 years old and started writing music together.
Deаd Sara officially debuted with their self-titled album in April 2012. After multiple changes in the bass and drummer positions, the band’s line-up finally solidified in 2009 with Sean Friday on drums and Chris Null on bass. Unfortunately, in 2015, Chris left the group shortly after the release of their album “Pleasure to Meet You.”
2. She Was Featured In Demi Lovato’s “Help Me”
Emily, along with her bandmates, contributed as credited writers for two tracks in total on Demi Lovato’s 2022 album “Holy Fᴠck.” Not only did she co-write the songs, but she also made a special appearance on the track titled “Help Me” and even performed live on stage with Demi, showcasing her personal talents beyond her own band.
3. She Started Playing The Guitar At The Age Of 12
It is no wonder that this female singer was selected as Linkin Park’s new vocalist as she is really experienced and talented. Emily started playing the guitar at a young age, around 12 years old. She was self-taught and developed her skills through a passion for music, which ultimately shaped her raw and powerful style as the frontwoman of her former band Deаd Sara.
4. She Used To Be A Folk Singer
Before Deаd Sara, Emily was a folk singer, drawn to the storytelling of music, particularly from the late ’60s and early ’70s. She felt deeply connected to the emotions and feelings expressed in that era, which she believes was the last significant period for that kind of raw expression. While often compared to Janis Joplin, the singer clarifies that it’s not about emulating Janis but rather capturing the profound emotions that resonate through the music of that time.
5. She Used To Date Kate Harrison
Emily has openly identified as gаy and has spoken about her experiences as a member of the LGBTQ+ community throughout her career. In 2016, she was in a relationship with model and Instagram star Kate Harrison. While their relationship was relatively private, there has been no public information or official confirmation regarding their breakup.
Can’t wait to see more of Emily shining with Linkin Park!
